Please note:

The Baden-Württemberg Cloud (bwCloud) provides virtual machines (servers) for members of science- and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg (e.g. students and staff-members) much like Amazon’s EC2. Building on the openstack-platform the infrastructure is currently operated by four sites in Baden-Württemberg: the Universities of Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Ulm and Freiburg.

Please note: We would like to inform you about the upcoming shutdown of the old bwCloud environment.

The new bwCloud (now called "bwCloud SCOPE") has six times as many compute nodes - for more information on bwCloud hardware SCOPE, see Infrastruktur bwCloud SCOPE. This will give us enough hardware to continue to grow and to provide resources to our users!

Unfortunately we can not offer automatic migration from the old bwCloud to bwCloud SCOPE. To support you in this transition, we have produced some documentation on what exactly you will need to do to use bwCloud SCOPE, and how you can migrate your resources to the new environment.

Remember: the old bwCloud environment will be kept operational until 1. October 2018.

From bwCloud ALT to bwCloud SCOPE

Due to the technical differences between the two bwCloud environments, we are unable to automatically move your projects and resources to the new environment. So you will need to:

  1. Rergister for the new service
  2. Manually migrate any resources you wish to keep

The general procedure looks like this:

  1. Register for the new service "bwCloud SCOPE"
  2. Upon receipt of activation email, finish account setup by setting a new service password
  3. Log into the new environment at

To make the whole process as simple as possible, we have additionally rebuilt our project website accordingly and developed new documentation:
